Fire service Cuts

[2nd March 2025 update]

The Conservative-dominated Warwickshire County Council has decided to push ahead with plans to remove one of the two fire engines based at Nuneaton Fire Station. Sadly, there was no fight from the existing County Councillors at scrutiny, cabinet or full council meetings. The changes will happen in the coming weeks as staff are relocated or leave the fire service. We understand why other places need more full time crews, but this should not have been at the expense of our protection.

Keith Kondakor said “I will do everything possible to get our 2nd fire engine and crews back at Nuneaton fire station. Even getting it crewed for the busiest 12 hours would be a great start. The current plan to retain some fire engines as un-crewed resilience appliances at normally empty stations is unworkable. We need this looked at again after the 1st of May elections, when it is likely that no one party will control the County Council.”
